It’s Klobberin’ Time: Cold War Steel Meets Video Game Nostalgia

It’s Klobberin’ Time: Cold War Steel Meets Video Game Nostalgia

There’s something about Cold War-era firearms that just hits different.

Maybe it’s the raw simplicity. Maybe it’s the geopolitical weight behind every design. Or maybe it’s the unmistakable Eastern Bloc aesthetic...utilitarian, aggressive, and unapologetically engineered for purpose over polish.

For me, that fascination has always centered around Soviet-era platforms. I’ve built and bought my fair share of AK variants over the years...each one with its own personality, but there was always one that sat just outside my collection.

The Vz. 61 Škorpion.

Compact. Iconic. Slightly chaotic.

And if you grew up on GoldenEye 007, you already know exactly where this is going.

From Parts Kit to Modern Frankenstein

When a parts kit popped up through K-Var, it was game on.

Instead of going the traditional route, I wanted to do take it one step further in the only way i know how.

So I built it.

Not just assembled, but built.

Having a Bambulab X1 Carbon 3D-printer, I was able to print my own lower. I was able to bring the platform into the modern era while still respecting its Cold War roots. But that wasn’t enough. With the rise of enhanced fire control systems like super safeties and forced reset triggers becoming more common...I pushed it further.

The goal:
Create a Vz. 61 that accepts an AR fire control group… and runs a forced reset trigger.

And it worked.

Everything came together clean. Smooth integration. Functional. And most importantly... fun.

This wasn’t just about owning a piece of history anymore. It was about evolving it.

The Klobb Effect

If you know, you know.

In GoldenEye 007, the Vz. 61 wasn’t called a Škorpion. It was the Klobb...arguably one of the most infamous (and wildly inaccurate) weapons in gaming history.

Weak. Unpredictable. But unforgettable.

And paired with that legendary pause screen...the watch face of James Bond.... (not to forget the absolute bange of the pause menu music) it became burned into a generation’s memory.

That combination sparked the idea.

Turning Nostalgia into Design

That’s where the shirt came from. Check out the "its Klobberin time" Shirt here

A mashup of:

  • Dual Vz. 61s (because one is never enough)
  • The iconic GoldenEye watch face
  • And a title that says it all:

“It’s Klobberin’ Time.”

It’s part parody. Part tribute. And completely Dangerous By Design.

This design isn’t just about the firearm...it’s about the culture around it. The late nights. The multiplayer chaos. The nostalgia of a time when graphics were blocky but the memories were sharp.

Built for Legends

This is what Dangerous By Design is all about.

Taking:

  • History
  • Culture
  • Chaos
  • And a little bit of rebellion

…and turning it into something you can wear.

Because whether it’s a Cold War relic brought back to life with modern engineering, or a throwback to one of the greatest games ever made...it all comes from the same place.

An appreciation for the things that leave a mark.

Final Thoughts

Building that Vz. 61 wasn’t just another project.

It was a full-circle moment, connecting Cold War engineering, modern innovation, and childhood nostalgia into one piece.

And now?

It lives both in the safe… and on a shirt.
